World Team Champions
During Craze's reign in 1999 a group of UK turntablists had their heads down practicing in anticipation of the inaugural DMC Team Championship, a stand alone event that was introduced to cater for the growing popularity of turntable crews. That group was in fact The Scratch Perverts who had tightly honed their skills in order to face Crazes US counter parts the Allies made up of A-Trak and Infamous. As the first World Team final was staged in the USA at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom's it came as no surprise that the Allies were firm favourites, so when the Scratch Perverts took the title that night the UK was once again a force to be reckoned with. To further bolster that opinion another UK crew, the EN4CERS comprising of Cutmaster Swift, Pogo and Biznizz took third.. As expected the rivalry was high and this was evident in the routines as teams dissed one another with well humored but insulting lyric cuts and gestures. The following year and the dawn of the millennium, Craze and co returned, sour grapes in hand and stole the Perverts title this time on UK turf. So come 2001 it was 1-1 and a level playing field, but instead of going head to head to settle the score once and for all, the Scratch Perverts and Allies in a show of unity joined forces to create the Perverted Allies and inevitably took the title. During these times there was contestant pressure from the French and in 2002 Crazy B's Birdy Nam Nam team muscled in to give France their first ever DMC victory. But it was C2C who really flew the 'drapeau tricolore'. After stealing the team champion title from their fellow countrymen in 2003, C2C then went on to crown glory in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and in turn mark history as the first ever DMC entrants to win the title for 4 consecutive years. Not only did they win over the judges with their technically constructed and faultless routines but they won the hearts of the audience with their party vibe musicality. In 2007 at the revamped Millennium Dome, the Japanese proved they were solid all rounders in this competition when Kireek astonished the crowds and rightfully claimed the Team Championship title.
2007 WORLD TEAM CHAMPIONS - KIREEK (JAPAN)

Kireek are the first Asian team from Japan to ever take the team title and consist of two members DJ Yasa (2006 World Final runner up) and DJ Hi-C. What was really enjoyable about them was their musical choice, they took full advantage of their musical culture and delivered it and remixed over phat Drum and Bass style beats which were manipulated in so many styles! Kireek delivered a very entertaining, action packed six minutes with beaming smiles from their faces throughout the performance, it showed resemblance of the Craze and ATrak set back in 2000 as they flowed between each other, it was perfection visually as well as audibly and most importantly you didn't have to force yourself to understand!
2006 / 2005 / 2004 / 2003 WORLD TEAM CHAMPIONS - C2C (FRANCE)

C2C's 2nd defense was more like a party set than a competition performance. With dynamic introductions that requested a crowd response they played on our emotions and within the first 2 minutes of their performance I knew they were the winner's! C2C took customised records to another level since there was so much music being selected, covering virtually every genre. They must have spent as much time in the studio developing this as they did practicing. Tuntablists like to make bold statements that they are musicians but there's lots more to manipulating records cleverly for six minutes, C2C have worked out what that is and they can firmly back it up.
With two title defenses firmly under their belt the choice of defending a third time doesn't usually enter many World champions minds, only DJ Craze managed to pull off such a challenging feat back in 2000, so when C2C announced they were back for a third time I was very excited and just didn't know what to expect! Most competitors base their sets around urban music, C2C however explored outside of this field and were bold enough to compose Jazz, Samba and Blues head nodding master pieces whilst constantly displaying a very visual well choreographed performance. In my personal opinion this was the most musically creative routine in the team championships to date! Billy Biznizz summed it all up by announcing "There is nothing more to be said!" as C2C exited the stage!
After blasting the competition out of the water over the past three years C2C announces a fourth title defense, I certainly didn't know what to think since 2005 was such a ground breaking performance surely that was their peak? With $10.000 being generously donated by stylus sponsors Ortofon this would be a great excuse to grab some extra pocket money while making history with a fourth title victory!
Sticking with tradition they started off with a big dynamic intro with choreographed movements it doesn't take long to see where they going with this as they remind us with a special cut down tribute of the favorite bits of their past winning performances this takes up a total of 3 minutes and is very clever, this left them to indulge us with a very musical head nodding and foot taping scratch vocal piece, the finale was a well choreographed set of sampled of horns that each member has in a different key as they take turns to cut in this is a excellent ending when you consider these guys are on tour performing a busy schedule which does restrict your creativity! C2C managed to overcome this through perfect planning, so congratulations C2C for becoming the first team in DMC history for winning the DMC Team title for an unprecedented four times!
2002 WORLD TEAM CHAMPIONS - BIRDY NAM NAM (FRANCE)

France has always had a great history of placing runner ups throughout DMC'S events and after injecting bold statements and perfect flowing yet refreshing melodic master pieces, there was no doubt which team had earned the 2002 title! Birdy Nam Nam were also the first team to exploit customised records to the full and Crazy B finally had a world title which proved you should never give up on your dreams!
2001 WORLD TEAM CHAMPIONS - PERVERTED ALLIES (USA/UK)

2000 WORLD TEAM CHAMPIONS - ALLIES (CRAZE & A-TRAK) (USA/CANADA)

1999 WORLD TEAM CHAMPIONS - SCRATCH PERVERTS (USA)

Staged in the home of Hip Hop at the Hammerstein Ballroom New York this event was open to more than one entrant per country, this was perfect for the UK's mighty Scratch Perverts since they were previously beaten by The En4cers for the UK title and took full advantage of this second chance! Their performance showed much more creativity within the original 4 man crew that consisted of Tony Vegas, Prime Cuts, MR Thing and First Rate. One of the most talked about and inspiring techniques the Perverts brought was the feedback tone, this was done by connecting the headphone output into the mic channels input and turning the volume up which increased the frequency allowing them to play some stunning musical pieces. The second technique was the Euro Scratch, a very awkward technique to master but once conquered it allows you to chop your scratches up just like Transforming but 4 faster! It's these techniques that the Perverts delivered on point that night with doses of insults and humor that earned them the 1999 World title!
