General Rules for DMC Live Events
DMC Live Regional, National and World Battles - Classic Showcase Format
This is DMC’s classic solo showcase style DJ battle, established in 1985. DJs will each perform a 2 min. routine for the elimination round. Qualified and respected judges will select the top 6 to advance to the final round. The top 6 finalists will each perform a 6 min. routine. The champion of this battle will advance to the next battle level (National or World Finals).
EQUIPMENT
DJs must use up to two Turntables and one DJ Mixer to compete. Brands may vary from country to country. DJs can use vinyl, DVS or both. DJs must supply their own headphones, slipmats, needles, records, laptops, power cords, usb cords, control vinyl, laptop stands etc. No controllers, CDJs, multi media players, production gear etc. are permitted. Rane Twelve turntable/controllers are permitted if available. Phase wireless technology is also permitted. This battle does not permit a video component.
TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY
If any DJ's performance is judged to be hindered or halted due to equipment failure they will be permitted to start their performance from the beginning. If the breakdown is due to the DJs own faulty set up, they will be allowed to begin again from the point of the breakdown.
NATIONALITY
Competitors must be citizens of the nation in which they are competing or be able to prove that they have resided in the nation for a minimum of 6 years.
JUDGING
DMC founder: Tony Prince - created this competition with no judging criteria. Judges “may” look for the following in any DJs set: Originality, Scratching, Beat Juggling, Showmanship/Stage Presence, Composition, Creativity, Execution, Technicality and/or Musicality. *These are not categories - just criteria that judges consider loosely. Branch managers and DMC branch employees should not judge the competition unless they are World champions.
DMC does not charge an entry fee for DJs to compete.
Any DJ of any age can enter.
