DMC Battleground: How Friday’s Eliminations Will Work
Friday decide's who gets there
The DMC Battleground is where the road to the World Finals becomes real. On Friday, November 13, DJs from around the world will arrive at THEATA in London to compete across four championship formats: Classic, Open, Scratch and Supremacy. By the end of the night, the fields will be reduced and the DJs who advance will have earned their place on the World Finals stage at KOKO.
Friday is not a warm-up for Saturday. It is a full championship event with its own pressure, performances and defining moments. Every routine matters. Every score matters. In the head-to-head formats, every exchange can change the bracket.
For the audience, it is the closest view of the competition all weekend: more DJs, more styles and the opportunity to see who rises before the spotlight moves to KOKO.
Four Championships on One Battleground
The 2026 DMC World DJ Championships bring four distinct disciplines together in London. Each one tests a different side of DJ performance, but all four demand originality, technical control and the ability to deliver under pressure.
DMC Classic
Classic is the foundation of the DMC World Championships: a tightly constructed routine built around turntablism, musical ideas, technical execution and performance. On Friday, the Classic competitors deliver three-minute elimination sets. The top ten advance to Saturday, where they return with six-minute World Final routines.
DMC Open
Open expands the creative possibilities of the championship. Competitors may use a wider range of DJ technology to build routines that combine technique, production, arrangement and live performance. Friday features five-minute elimination sets, with the top three advancing to Saturday for the twelve-minute World Final.
DMC Scratch
Scratch isolates one of the most expressive elements of turntablism and puts it under direct pressure. On Friday, competitors are divided into four groups: three groups of four DJs and one group of five. Each DJ receives two 16-bar turns, with DMC randomly selecting a different beat for every turn. Competitors do not select their own beats. Judges assess each group separately, and the Top 2 DJs from each group advance. Eight DJs move forward to Saturday’s head-to-head tournament.
DMC Supremacy
Supremacy is DMC battle culture at its most direct. DJs face one another in timed exchanges, answering their opponent round by round. Friday determines the remaining positions in the Saturday bracket, where the surviving challengers meet the defending champion and compete for the title.
Friday Creates Saturday
Saturday at KOKO is the World Finals stage, but the shape of that show is decided on Friday. Classic and Open competitors must place high enough in the eliminations. Scratch competitors must qualify for the Top 8. Supremacy challengers must survive the Friday stage to remain in contention.
That makes the Battleground the point where national titles, wildcard victories and months of preparation are tested against the strongest international field of the year. Some DJs will confirm their status. Others will break through in front of the world. For many, Friday will be the final performance of their 2026 campaign.
A Global Field in One Room
The DMC World Championships have always been built on national scenes meeting on one stage. London will bring together champions and finalists from across Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa and beyond. Each competitor arrives with a different musical background, battle history and approach to performance.
That variety is what makes Friday unpredictable. The audience will see established names, returning finalists and first-time world competitors in the same room. A DJ who has only been seen online may become the performance everyone is discussing by the end of the night.
More Than Eliminations
The Battleground is designed as a complete live event, not a closed qualification session. Alongside the championship action, the night includes live appearances from DJ Craze and DJ Koco, with hosts guiding the audience through the different competitions and the stories behind the international field.
Because the four formats move differently, the pace changes throughout the event. One moment may be a carefully constructed Classic routine; the next may be a direct Scratch or Supremacy exchange. The result is a full evening that shows the range of modern championship DJing.
